What are the technical requirements for the course?
- Pop-up blocker must be turned off
- Speakers must be turned on for audio
- Screen resolution must be a minimum of 1024×768
- A PDF reader, such as Adobe Acrobat, to print certificates
Supported Browsers: Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Internet Explorer* (version 8 or higher). The course will work on PCs, Macs and tablets.
*Please note: Internet Explorer users will require Adobe Flash Player to run audio
Who is the target audience for the course?
Our target audience for the course is broadly defined as people working or intending to work in the area of tobacco control. This includes people working in:
- Municipal, provincial/territorial and federal governments
- Public health units
- Non-governmental organizations (including volunteers)
- Funding agencies
- Health agencies (e.g., hospitals)
In addition, the course is available to the following types of professionals:
- Public health educators (including teachers at all levels)
- Smoking cessation therapists and counsellors
- Other health professionals interested in tobacco control (including physicians, nurses dentists, pharmacists, etc.)
- Research assistants, project directors and others working on tobacco-related activities within research organizations
How do I get my course certificate?
Certificates are issued when you score 70 or more on the final test AND complete the feedback survey. All certificates can be printed from your student homepage by clicking the printer icon beside “Certificate”. Once you launch the course you can get back to your homepage at any time by clicking the “x” in the top right corner of the module screen, or by clicking in the grey area beside the module screen. If you are completing the course as a prerequisite for TEACH, you can fax or email your certificates to the contact information provided to you on registration.
Why aren’t my scores showing up on my student homepage?
Once you land on your student homepage it might take a few seconds to load all the data onto the page. If your score doesn’t show up after the page is finished loading, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Is this course accredited?
You can get credits for the OTRU course by taking it as a prerequisite for TEACH courses. We do not offer standalone credits.
Is this course offered in French?
Unfortunately, we cannot support the course in French so it is no longer available.
How long does the course take? Is there a time limit to complete the course?
Each course module takes about 2-3 hours to complete, although it may take longer if you watch all the supporting videos. There is no time limit on completing the course and you can also repeat the course as many times as you like.
What do I do if my screen freezes, or if I get a blank page?
This can happen if the internet connection is interrupted. Closing the window and logging back into the course usually fixes the issue. If, after trying this, you still can’t get into the course after 5 minutes please email us at email@example.com.
Why is some of the course page cut off?
The course is designed to be viewed with a minimum screen resolution of 1024×768. You may have to contact your IT department to adjust these settings on your computer screen.
How can I get a print version of the course?
We encourage all students to take advantage of the interactive and audio/visual components of the course. You can, however, print individual pages or the whole module by clicking the “Print” button on the top right of the course screen.
Who do I contact if I have a question about the content of the course?
“Ask the Expert” is an email option that provides you with access to course instructors. Send us your comments and/or questions, or let us know if you would like further clarification of any course material. Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
